Salmon recipes inspired from different parts of the world!

It is my salmon and I want it now!

Salmon is one of the most popular types of fish! It is known to be rich in omega-3 fatty acid. Some people have even considered doing the salmon diet… where they only eat salmon, it is crazy I know, but can you blame them this kind of diet was sponsored by Hollywood films.

I personally can live on salmon no problem however I would rather not… to pretend that my body is healthy and full of nutrients.

On my last shopping spree, I bought a whole salmon fish. I wanted to try filleting myself at the end of the filleting process I had around 16 pieces of salmon fillets. So, I got the idea to do a different recipe for each salmon fillet. The recipes were inspired from different parts of the world, like India, Japan, America, Mexico and a combination of Mediterranean/middle eastern countries.

Indian inspired recipe

The main ingredients were mango, chili and masala fish spices. A combination that might be bizarre to be put on a salmon fish but trust me it works together flawlessly.

  • 2 table spoons of mango spices
  • 2 table spoons of masala fish spices
  • 1 table spoons of chili paste
  • 1 tsp of yogurt
  • Optional – mango pieces and chili flakes.

Japanese inspired recipe

You can go in so many different directions when it comes to Japanese inspired salmon. I chose to do a teriyaki and sesame seed covered salmon. This one was a real challenge as I decided to make the teriyaki sauce from scratch. Nonetheless, I had certain components such as mirin and sake missing. It failed and so I ended up using ready teriyaki sauce.

  • 2 table spoons of teriyaki sauce
  • 2 table spoon of sesame seeds

American inspired recipe

The easiest and tastiest recipe if you like fatty food. I stuffed the salmon with cheese (I chose sharp cheddar, but you can go in various different ways). I then added this buttery garlic sauce on top.

  • 2 cloves of garlic – crushed
  • 200g of butter – melted
  • 2-3 slices of sharp cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Mexican inspired recipe

There were two ways to go with this one. You can cover the salmon with guacamole or salsa. I went with salsa as the store didn’t have any ripped avocadoes.

  • 1 diced tomato
  • 2 cloves of garlic – Crushed
  • A cup of cilantro – roughly chopped
  • ½ cup of parsley – Roughly chopped
  • 1 chopped onion
  • ½ a lemon – squeezed
  • 2 table spoons of chili sauce
  • 1 table spoon of sriracha sauce

Mediterranean/ middle eastern inspired

My favorite! I took the element of Greek yogurt, garlic, oregano from the Mediterranean side and added zaatar for the middle eastern side. Again, an uncanny mixture but the taste speaks for itself.

  • 2 table spoons of Greek yogurt
  • 1 tsp of oregano
  • 1tsp of mint
  • 1 tsp of dried parsley
  • 1table spoon of Zaatar

Note for the directions of making: Simply mix all the ingredient in a bowl and add them each on a piece of salmon. Bake or grill the salmon for 30-45min.

The following is a video that summarizes everything written above –

Until next time, crave the dish…
