The best Beef Ribs!

*Vegans have left the chat*

The other day while I was in the poultry section of the store, I came across a beautiful rack of beef ribs that I needed to get my hands on and cook. I have had beef ribs in various places around the world needless to say, ribs are my favorite they are juicy, tender and flavorful when cooked the right way!

I personally never cooked them before and so I decided to look some recipes online and got the basic idea of how to cook beef ribs to perfection. Most recipes involved grilling them and adding liquid smoke to give them the Smokey BBQ flavor, one recipe though by Jaime Oliver grabbed my attention, it involved searing the beef ribs and cooking them for 6 hours in the oven. I loved this recipe and decided to follow the same technique!

Here is my take on the perfect beef rib recipe, I mean this is a very easy way to make ribs that are for sure going to be a party stopper at your next dinner table.

Ingredients:

  • 2 kg of beef ribs โ€“ best cuts of ribs include plate and back ribs.
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon cajun seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon dry basil
  • 1 tablespoon dry mint
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 tablespoon oregano
  • 2-4 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons BBQ sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Soya sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Method:

  1. Rinse ribs and dry completely with paper towels. You may need to trim down some fats if necessary. I like to keep a good layer of fat as that enhances the flavor.
  2. Massage some salt into the ribs making sure to cover all sides and then proceed to mix all the dry spices and massage them as well into the ribs.
  3. In a big skillet or baking tray pour the olive oil โ€“ You may want to cut a garlic and an onion in half and pop them into the oil while it is heating for extra seasoning.
  4. Once the oil has heated sear the beef ribs making sure all sides turn brown. This step traps all the liquids that make the ribs juicy inside, and so you will end up with the juiciest ribs if done right.
  5. Set aside for 5 min to rest on an aluminum foil. Then cover the ribs completely with the aluminum foil and pop them into the oven for 4 hours.
  6. Mix the BBQ sauce, ketchup, soya sauce, and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl.
  7. Take out the ribs after the 4 hours and brush them with the liquid sauce made in the last step. Cover them completely and pop them back into the oven for an hour or two.
  8. Serve them hot!
