As you may have figured out, from previous blogs, I love to spice up my food either by adding different spices or by adding that one ingredient that changes the entire aroma of a dish. Hence, when I heard that Choices in Oryx Rotana hotel offers an Indian night, I needed to try it out.
I have always loved Indian food and found it full of enriching colours and flavours that tingle your taste buds, Choices offered me just that.
A journey through authentic Indian dishes.
Stop 1: The Salads
There were a variety of salads that were utterly spectacular including:
- Mango Kachumber
This salad is where the sweet meets the spicey; The main ingredients involved in the salad is mangos and chilli peppers. Surprisingly, the combination was brilliant.
- Quinoa kosumbari
Kosambari is a traditional, south Indian vegetarian side dish. It is made up of cucumbers, coriander leaves, and chilli. The salad is usually served with lentils, nevertheless, quinoa substituted the lentils.
- Punjabi piyaz
The Punjabi piyaz salad is made up of onions and Chili. I would like to consider that specific salad as a side dish as it almost had a similar taste to a pickled onion.
- Bindhi salad
A delicious salad made of crispy okra pieces alongside onions and parsley leaves.
Stop 2: The Pastries
Dosa, Naan, Chapati, Roti, Papadum, Besan Puri, and Poori are all types of Indian bread that were baked to perfection at Choices Indian night.
Stop 3: The main course
At choices Indian night there were a variety of main dishes that were cooked beyond our expectations. The beauty of the food served is that not only was it presented in a nice way, the dishes were also at different levels of spiciness so that it could match everyone’s need. Here are some of my favourite dishes that your taste buds may be missing out on.
- Shrimp Curry
I love this dish a lot, it was full of different flavours that complemented each other in a good way.
The most known Indian rice dish in the world. This rice is full of essence and is served either on its own or with chicken, shrimp or meat.
- Tomato rice
This was my first time trying out tomato flavoured rice and definitely would want to go for it again.
- Butter chicken
Another well-known Indian dish that I enjoy every time I have it.
- Tandoor chicken
This type of Chicken is marinated in a paste of yoghurt and spices and then roasted or grilled. I have to have it each time we go to an Indian restaurant.
- Mutton Curry
Mutton curry is an Indian curry dish that is prepared from mutton (a type of meat) and vegetables.
A samosa is a fried or baked dish with a filling that includes spiced potatoes, onions, peas, lentils, minced lamb or minced beef.
stop 4: The Desserts
You can’t leave any restaurant before trying out their desserts and at choices, I wasn’t disappointed. Below are the desserts I devoured!!!
A wheat flour batter deeply fried and soaked in sugar syrup, served hot.
- Gulab Jamun
Small balls of dried milk, slowly cooked and boiled in a sugar syrup.
An iced preparation made from thickened milk, almonds, and pistachios.
Rasgulla is a syrupy dessert popular in India. It is made from ball-shaped dumplings of chhena (a type of cheese) and semolina(a type of flour) dough, cooked in a light syrup made of sugar.
We left with satisfied tummies and the journey ended there, looking forward to another journey in Indian cuisine.
